Premiership: Larsen brace lifts Wolves past struggling Southampton

Jørgen Strand Larsen scored twice as Wolves secured a vital 2-1 victory over Southampton, moving nine points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Despite a bright start, Southampton fell behind in the 19th minute when Strand Larsen’s header beat Aaron Ramsdale in Wolves’ first attempt on goal.

According to the BBC Sports, the visitors doubled their lead just after the break, with Strand Larsen drilling a low shot into the bottom corner—prompting some Saints fans to leave early.

Paul Onuachu pulled one back in the 75th minute, reacting quickest after Tyler Dibling’s shot struck the post, but Wolves held firm to claim all three points.

Southampton’s defeat marks their ninth consecutive home loss, making them only the fourth side in English top-flight history to endure such a streak, following Birmingham (1985-86), Wolves (2011-12), and Watford (2021-22). They remain rooted to the bottom with nine points—two fewer than Derby’s infamous Premier League record low.

In contrast, Wolves have picked up 10 points from their last six matches, easing their relegation fears after a four-game losing streak in January.

Strand Larsen, netting his first goal since December, was instrumental in Wolves’ seventh consecutive league victory over Southampton—their longest such run since beating Burnley seven times in a row between 1974 and 2018.

Although Wolves had chances to extend their lead—Joao Gomes shooting wide and Pablo Sarabia hesitating in a key counterattack—Onuachu’s late goal ensured a tense finish.

The final whistle was met with relief from the traveling Wolves supporters as Vítor Pereira’s side took another step toward Premier League survival.
