Police in Lusaka have warned and cautioned Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa, in connection with an alleged offence of seditious practice.

According to Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, the caution pertained to a possible violation of Section 57(1)(b) as read with Section 60(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Hamoonga said the allegation related to an incident on August 17, 2024, at around 17:07 hours in Lusaka.

“It is alleged that Honourable Sampa posted and caused to be published a video on his Facebook page, ‘Miles Sampa,’ containing words that may bring hatred or contempt or excite disaffection against the government as by law established,” Hamoonga said.

He confirmed that Sampa was released after recording a warn and caution statement.

On his Facebook page, Sampa confirmed the police’s action, writing: “Today the Police gave me a warn and caution for sedition over the end half of a video I made on the MTN building sale to Building Society and questions I posed around suspected corruption. I signed ‘Understood’ the warn and caution but opted to give no comments.”
