Police in Lusaka have confirmed that Forum for Democracy and Development leader, Edith Nawakwi, has been summoned for questioning on undisclosed case.
Deputy Police Public Relations, Danny Mwale, said Nawakwi was summoned to report to the Police last week but that her lawyer requested to reschedule to today, at 14:30 hours.
Mwale in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lusaka explained that Police received information that she was unwell and that the lawyer was bereaved.
He said Police were, however, surprised that the person reported to be very sick was sending messages that Police were looking for her on social media platforms.
“We, therefore, advise that she reports herself to the Police,” Mwale said.

He also said that Police in Mansa have charged and arrested Leonard Chanda, aged 39, a Major in the Zambia Air Force, for Attempts to Procure Commission of Criminal Acts contrary to section 392(1) chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
“Brief facts of the matter are that on August 28, 2023, the suspect went to Luapula Police Division Headquarters where he met one of the senior officers to authorize him to carry out illegal mining at Butute Mining situated in Milenge District even when he was not in possession of a mining licence,” Mwale said.
He said the suspect was detained and later released on Police bond to appear in court soon.
