Police probe ex-Kabushi lawmaker, Lusambo, over alleged fraudulent K850,000 property deal

Police in Lusaka have launched an investigation into former Kabushi Member of Parliament, Bowman Lusambo, who allegedly received K850,000 under false pretenses in a fraudulent property transaction.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, stated that the investigation followed a report filed at Woodlands Police on October 15, 2024, involving a disputed sale of a property.

The complaint was made by Zambezi East Member of Parliament, Brian Kambita, who resides at House No. 42, Joseph Kabwe Crescent, PHI.

According to Hamoonga, Kambita reported that Lusambo, a resident of Chamba Valley, claimed to own a house in Silverest, Plot No. 28473/M, Subdivision A288, and allegedly offered it for sale at K850,000.

The transaction was said to have occurred between August 23 and September 12, 2024.

Hamoonga explained that Lusambo initially showed Kambita photos of the four-bedroom house, which included modern fittings, and arranged a site visit. However, the house was locked and Lusambo informed Kambita it was occupied by his elder brother on the Copperbelt.

Following this, Kambita reportedly paid Lusambo an initial K400,000 on August 23, followed by a final installment of K450,000 on September 12, totaling K850,000.

A sales contract was signed, with assurances that the title deed would soon be transferred.

However, Kambita’s attempts to finalise the transfer were unsuccessful, and he was later informed that the property faced issues with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

In response, Lusambo allegedly provided Kambita with two title deeds as surety, but neither bore Kambita’s name.

Kambita subsequently discovered that the property had reportedly been sold to another Member of Parliament in a similar manner, prompting him to report the matter to the police.

“The Zambia Police Service urges the public to exercise caution in property transactions, ensuring proper due diligence and ownership verification before making financial commitments,” Hamoonga advised.
