Kanyama Police Station is probing a suspected rape and homicide after an unidentified woman, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, was found dead in the Garden House area on Sunday morning.

According to a report filed at 11:00 hours by 33‑year‑old Isaac Chama of Garden House, passer-by discovered the victim lying unresponsive on the ground.

Officers who arrived on the scene noted that she was partially clothed—wearing a blue dress and pink shoes—and bore bruising around the neck consistent with strangulation.

The body was transported to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where a post‑mortem examination will determine the exact cause of death and assist in formal identification.

Police have opened a docket for murder and rape and have launched a full-scale investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“This is a heinous act that we condemn in the strongest terms,” said Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga. “We urge anyone with information to come forward without delay.”

Hamoonga urged anyone with relevant information to contact Kanyama Police Station or call the Zambia Police Service emergency line.

Further details would be released as the investigation progresses, according to the police.
