Police in Luanshya arrest 63-year-old for allegedly defiling mentally-challenged girl

Police in Luanshya District have arrested a 63-year-old man in connection with the offence of defiling a mentally challenged girl.

Police investigations revealed that on June 14, 2024, around 16:00 hours, Frank Chiti, was found by two women in a compromising state with the girl in the Maposa Farming area within Luanshya District.

Danny Mwale, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday.

Mwale said it was alleged that the girl was lying on the ground while the suspect was kneeling near her with his trousers unzipped.

“The two women later alerted members of the public, who apprehended the suspect along with the victim and handed them over to the police,” he stated.

Mwale said members of the public identified the victim as a 14-year-old mentally challenged girl from the Maposa area.

He stated that the girl is currently undergoing medical examinations at Thompson General Hospital, while the suspect is detained in police custody.
