Police in Kanyama detain man over alleged murder of wife

Police in Kanyama have detained Moses Mukele, aged 23, of John Laing compound on allegations of murdering his wife, Bridget Musonda who was aged 21.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said a report was received on October 8, 2023 around 16:30 hours from a concerned neighbour to the deceased, who reported that Moses Mukele had murdered his wife.

Hamoonga in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday said prior to the incident, the deceased informed the neighbours that she and the husband had a domestic quarrel but later went back home.

He said immediately she got home, a fight erupted between the two.

“Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing some noise only to find the deceased stabbed with a knife on the back of the head,” Hamoonga said.

He said she was rushed to Kanyama Level One Hospital where she later died.

“Police visited the scene of crime and the body was deposited in the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” Hamoonga said.

He said the suspect had been detained in custody and that investigations into the matter were ongoing.
