Chavuma police, in Zambia’s North-Western Province have detained a woman for allegedly stealing a three-week-old baby.
Facts of the matter is that she snatched the baby and went the to the hospital on pretext that she had given birth from home.
Police said the incident happened on Wednesday in Kapapilo village around 21:00 hours.
North – Western province Commanding officer Dennis Moola said Rebecca Kaumba 17 reported that her three weeks old baby boy had been stolen by a stranger of her age only identified as Chilombo.

“A female has been detained in Chavuma in connection with theft of a child,” he said.
He said while in her house with her child, the victim heard a knock at her door and when she opened, it was the suspect who claimed she was being chased by her husband after being beaten.
Moola said the suspect was crying and pleaded to be allowed to seek shelter in her house.
He said the victim allowed her and later she was asked if she could go to the roadside to check if the suspects husband was still pursuing her.
“The victim went and after returning, she found the suspect had disappeared with her child,” he said.
Moola said the suspect was later apprehended at Chavuma district hospital where she had rushed to and claimed she had given birth from home.
Police were later alerted as her claims were suspicious and led to her apprehension.
