Two pedestrians have died after being hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident along Great North Road near Novare Mall, opposite Petroda Filling Station.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said the fatal accident occurred on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at approximately 20:30 hours.
The accident involved an unidentified driver operating a Mitsubishi Rosa bus of unknown registration number. The driver, whose age and residential address remain unknown, fled the scene, leaving the extent of the vehicle’s damage undetermined.
“Tragically, both victims—an unidentified male aged between 25 and 30 years and a female between 20 and 25 years—sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead on the spot,” Hamoonga said in a statement on Monday.
Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information that could help identify the driver or vehicle to come forward.
“We appeal to motorists to exercise caution on the roads and remind the public of the legal consequences of hit-and-run accidents,” Hamoonga said.
He encouraged members of the public to report any relevant information to the nearest police station or contact the Zambia Police emergency lines.
