Police have reportedly thwarted a robbery at Interland Puma Filling Station in Lusaka’s Libala area, resulting in the fatal shooting of four criminals.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, stated that the criminals, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, attempted the robbery on June 30, 2024, around 19:00 hours.

Mwale issued a statement in Lusaka on Monday, explaining that concerned members of the public tipped off police officers about the planned robbery at the Interland PUMA filling station.

“Officers from the Anti-Robbery Crack Squad Unit rushed to the scene and found a tinted, unregistered white Toyota Allion parked near the filling station,” he said.

Mwale said officers challenged the occupants by blocking the Toyota Allion.

Four individuals, one armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, exited the vehicle and fled in different directions before the Toyota Allion sped off.

He reported that the suspects were met with gunfire, sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and were rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, where they were all declared deceased.

“An AK-47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition was recovered. The bodies of the four deceased are in the same hospital mortuary awaiting formal identification,” Mwale said.

He also indicated that a manhunt for the other suspects and the Toyota Allion had been launched.
