Copperbelt Police Chief Peacewell Mweemba says three people have been detained in connection with the theft of 700 by 50 kilogramme bags of brown sugar valued at K560,000 in Kitwe.
Also arrested is Hamdy Isarak 59 of Lebanese origin of unknown house number in Kitwe’s Riverside area for receiving stolen items.
“Three people have been detained in Kitwe for alleged theft of bags of brown sugar valued at K560,000 that were in transit to Mokambo border en-route to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from Ndola,” Mweemba said.

He identified the suspects as Stelion Mwape 54 of Twapia township in Ndola a business man , Emmanuel Kashita 52 of Bulangililo township in Kitwe a truck driver and Moses Kauseni 29 of Kitwe’s Chimwemwe township also a business man.
Involved was a Scania truck registration number AJD7498 AJD 8308T AJD 8317T which was being driven by one of the suspects Kashita ladden with the bags of sugar from Zambia Sugar Company in Ndola en- route to Mokambo border.
He said in a statement on Saturday that the driver whilst acting together with other people unknown did divert the same load to one of the G and G Bakery Warehouse premises within Kitwe lndustrial Area.
The police managed to recover the sugar which were under lock and key in the same warehouse.
