Police in Chilanga District have instituted investigations to identify the person linked to the dumping of the corpse of a baby, which was found with her lower legs limbs missing.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said Chilanga Police Friday at 16:40 hours received a report of a baby that was dumped from a concerned member of the public, Ronex Mwaimba, of Research compound in Chilanga District.
Hamoonga said this in statement released on Saturday to Zambia Monitor in Lusaka.
“Brief Facts of the matter are that on the material date around 16:10hours, the reporter whilst at home went to throw some rubbish at the dump site about 30 meters away from his home and it was at that point when he saw something which looked like a baby and a lot of flies were on it,” he said.
Hamoonga said Mr. Mwaimba checked closely and confirmed that it was a dead body of a baby and immediately informed his neighbours and later reported the matter to Chilanga Police.
He said the Police visited the scene and found a body of a fully grown baby, which was partially in a plastic bag, and in a decomposed state and is suspected to have been born two days ago immediately after birth.

He said the body had been picked by officers from Chilanga Council Public Health Department for burial.
