Police arrest four community crime prevention unit officers over alleged assault

Police at Kalikiliki Police Post have arrested and charged four Community Crime Prevention Unit Officers (CCPU) implicated in the disturbing video circulating on social media.

The video depicted the alleged torture of a 14-year-old male juvenile, of Kalikiliki compound.

In a statement Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, identified the suspects as Benson Banda, 49 of mutendere, Smart Phiri, 21 of Ibex hill, Paul Sakala, 32 of Kalikiliki and Janex Yambayamva, 29 of Kalikiliki.

Hamoonga stated that the alleged suspects have been charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm Contrary to Section 248 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

“During the investigation, the accused opted to exercise their right to remain silent in their Warn and Caution statements,” Hamoonga said.

He revealed that the victim subjected to apparent maltreatment in the video, faces serious charges himself, including murder, aggravated robbery and malicious damage to property.

“As a law enforcement agency we condemn any form of misconduct within our institution and we would like to assure the public that such actions will be met with the full force of the law,” he emphasized.
