Pittscon Zambia Limited, directors lose K100 million assets in government seizure

The government has seized assets worth more than K100 million from Pittscon Zambia Limited and its directors, following a ruling by the Lusaka High Court that deemed the assets to be proceeds of crime.

Anti-Corruption Commission Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, revealed that the seized properties were accumulated between 2018 and 2022 through contracts awarded to Pittscon Zambia Limited for periodic road maintenance projects under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Moono explained that the contracts were obtained under false pretenses, with engineers listed as key staff members of the company who were not actually involved.

“A total of four contracts were awarded by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing amounting to over K240 million, in which Pittscon Zambia Limited used the names of non-employed engineers without their knowledge or consent,” Moono stated.

He further disclosed that following the award of the contracts, Pittscon Zambia Limited received over K100 million, from which the company’s directors—Emmanuel Mugala, Peter Malao, Edson Mugala, and Lucky Simbeye—benefited, leading to the acquisition of several properties.

“The properties include 109 residential housing units, 32 shops, six motor vehicles, two Howo trucks, and two graders,” he added.

In delivering the judgment, the court concluded that the Anti-Corruption Commission had sufficiently demonstrated, on a balance of probabilities, that the properties in question were tainted.
