PF’s Chanda urges unity, warns against political, ethnic divisions

Patriotic Front (PF) Kanchibiya Constituency lawmaker, Sunday Chanda, has called on Zambians to reject any attempts—subtle or blatant—to divide the nation along political, ethnic, or regional lines.

Chanda stated that building a united Zambia, where every citizen had a fair chance at a better future, was a collective responsibility.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, he urged political leaders, both in government and the opposition, to recognize their shared duty in advancing the country rather than fostering divisions.

“Leadership is not about winning arguments but about winning the future for those who will come after us. The call to service is not a fight for positions but a fight for progress,” Chanda said.

He stressed that Zambia’s strength laid not in its differences but in its ability to rise above them.

“Zambia is bigger than any political party, tribe, region, or individual ambition,” he stated, encouraging citizens to reflect on John F. Kennedy’s famous words: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.’

Chanda added that nation-building was not the government’s responsibility alone but required the collective effort of all citizens.

“If we all take responsibility in our own spaces—whether in government, opposition, business, civil society, or community service—Zambia will not only overcome today’s challenges but thrive for generations to come,” he said.
