Patriotic Front (PF) faction vice president, Given Lubinda, has reiterated that former President Edgar Lungu would be on the ballot in the 2026 general elections, despite a Constitutional Court ruling barring him from contesting.
Speaking on Prime Television on Saturday night, Lubinda insisted that a “Plan B” was in motion and urged Zambians to “watch the space.”
“We have no respect for that judgment. Just watch the space—former President Lungu will be on the ballot,” he declared.

Lubinda claimed that campaigns for Lungu’s return were already underway but refused to disclose how the former president would legally appear on the ballot.
“We will not disclose how, except that Plan B is in motion. People are tired of empty promises. It is not me who nicknamed President Hakainde Hichilema ‘Shi Promise’ (the father of promises),” he said.
He further stated that the PF, through the Tonse Alliance, would return to power and restore economic stability.
“People are desperate for change, and nothing will stop them from removing the United Party for National Development (UPND),” Lubinda added.
On December 10, 2025, the Constitutional Court ruled that Lungu was ineligible to contest future elections.
However, his PF faction has continued to insist that he will be on the ballot in 2026.
