The United Party for National Development (UPND) should not cast a stone on Father Anthony Salangeti whose remarks was just reminding President Hakainde Hichilema to reduce the cost of living and not misleading the nation in the name of using graphs for illustrations.
This is according to the Patriotic front (PF) presidential hopeful, Chishimba Kambwili, who stated that the graphs that Hichilema presented at a briefing were all misused in order to drive the agenda that was not correct.
Kambwili said in an interview that Father Salangeti was not wrong to advise the President, but did so inorder for him to improve the cost of living that the people of Zambia wants.
“Let’s stop condemning each other and unite the country, other catholic father’s are condemning father Salangeti for speaking the truth, but am telling you, you are condemning the church and the Catholic priest at your own peril,” he said.
He stated that the President was boasting about the increase in investment pledges which were only mere pledges.
“Coming to the graphs, let’s learn to tell the truth, the graphs that President Hichilema was giving were all misused to drive an agenda that is not correct.
“The president was boasting about the increase in investment pledges. He was saying that they have raised 8.5 billion dollars in two years through pledges. Are you sure you raised that money, those are mere pledges?” He said.
Kambwili further disclosed that the graphs the President used was to confuse the people and mislead the nation who were only interested to hear the progress in the works.
“Graphs are for boardrooms or lecturing, so what is wrong for you to start attacking father Salangeti who spoke the truth,” he said.
He also stated that everyone in Zambia knows that the Catholic Church has been standing for nothing but the truth and has been condemning the government if not doing as expected.
“The Catholic Church has been condemning any government not doing as expected. From UNIP Catholic spoke of injustice, and when the Catholic was condemning PF, UPND were celebrating what has changed with what father Salangeti said.
He said the Father was not wrong in anyway, he was only advising the President to work on the cost of living in the country than give graphs they don’t understand.
