Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, has advised the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) to file a fresh notification of intention to hold the public rally in Lusaka’s Zingalume area of Matero Constituency.

Mwiimbu on Wednesday met with the PF delegation led by party Spokesperson, Raphael Nakacinda, who delivered a letter of appeal over the refusal by the Zambia Police to allow the party hold a planned rally on 26th of this month.

Responding to the letter of appeal written by organising Chairperson, Christopher Shakafuswa, dated August 17, 2023, Mwiimbu stated that he had favorably considered the appeal and advised the party to file a fresh notification.

He also proposed that alternative dates should be set so as to allow the Zambia Police Service to indicate a favourable date for the purposes of providing security.

“You may wish to note that I considered your appeal herein and accordingly guide that you file with the Inspector General of Police, a fresh notification of intention to hold the public rally with alternative dates so as to allow the Zambia Police Service indicate a favourable date for purposes of security provision,” Mwiimbu advised.

Nakacinda said that the team would visit the Inspector General of Police, Graphael Musamba, on Thursday as advised by Mwiimbu to iron out logistical and security issues.

He said this was in order to allow for the mass rally to take place as scheduled on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

“The PF has been compelled to appeal to the Minister as the police have blatantly refused to allow the PF to hold its rally in Zingalume area,” Nakacinda said.

He said that the party was determined to launch its strategic plan during the rally.
