The Edgar Lungu-led Patriotic Front (PF) says it will not impose the former president on Zambians and the party members across the country.

Faction Secretary-General, Raphael Nakacinda, said Zambians and the party members would decide whether they still need Lungu to continue from where he left or not.

Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka on Monday, Nakacinda, denied the accusations of forcing the former President onto Zambians and party members as their leader of choice.

“We don’t have to impose president Lungu on the Zambian people, it’s the Zambian people themselves who are saying, ‘I think he was better off than this one who is in government,” he added.

Nakacinda claimed that the Zambian populace favored Lungu’s leadership upon assessing President Hakainde Hichilema’s performance in the last three years.

He added that Lungu and his party were adversely affected by the propaganda efforts of the United Party for National Development (UPND).

“I can tell you that propaganda Machinery was not only established by UPND, they also had very powerful foreign entities that put up that machinery,” he further claimed.

On the party’s presidency and convention to elect a leader, Nakachinda stated that a position would be made once the due process of the courts of law was concluded.

He said currently there was no party presidency vacuum because Lungu had returned to active politics and still remains party president.

“The colleagues who indicated their intentions to stand as party president have resolved to rally behind Lungu and until at a time when he chooses to return, then they shall be given an opportunity to lead the party,” Nakacinda stated.
