Party leader, M’membe, criticises former police chiefs for staying aloof on conduct of policemen

Socialist Party (SP) president, Dr Fred M’membe, has criticised former Inspectors General of Police (IGs) for failing to guide the conduct of current police chiefs.

M’membe stated that former IGs possessed a wealth of knowledge and experience that could prevent the ongoing deterioration of state institutions, such as the once-revered Zambia Police Service.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, the SP leader emphasised that many mistakes could be avoided if former IGs engaged with sitting IGs in a formal and structured manner.

“Zambia cannot keep moving backwards when it has experienced individuals,” M’membe said.

He pointed out that Dr Martin Malama, a former IG beloved by police officers for his commendable qualities, could offer valuable guidance to current IGs.

“If they won’t listen to you, who will they listen to? The destruction of these institutions will be very costly,” M’membe warned.
