New Heritage Party (NHP) president, Chishala Kateka, has challenged the Anti-Corruption Commission to produce evidence in form of the audit trail for the transaction which were made with regards to K65 million forfeited to the state by Faith Musonda.
Kateka said the verbal assurances during its recent press briefing is not enough because K65 million is a large amount especially that government has committed to run its business in accordance with the rule of law.
According to a statement issued on Friday in Lusaka, Kateka said when monies are received by any government official or department, there are guidelines with regard to the procedures that ought to be followed.
She said a K65 million deposit on or around the relevant day will go a long way towards restoring confidence that the verbal assurances being given are in fact backed up by facts on the ground.
“If this was not done and there is no audit trail, it means that procedure may not have been followed and there may have been some misapplication of the funds,” Kateka said.
She said if the appropriate procedure was not followed, then those responsible will have to be arrested as have those of the previous government who have been arrested for not following procedure.
Kateka said the party has failed to understand how questioning a supposedly unaccounted for large amount of money constitutes a derailing of the government from its agenda.
“Our challenge to the government is kindly provide the audit trail to demonstrate that: Procedure was followed with regard to the process taken in handling the K65million. The money was utilized in accordance with what Government has stated that it has been used for,” she said.
