Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) has alleged tribalism in the continued detention without trial of gold scandal, Sedrick Kasanda.

PeP President, Sean Tembo, said: “It is worth noting that apart from Sedrick Kasanda, who hails from Luapula Province, the other five suspects either hail from Southern Province or one of the Zambezi Provinces,” he pointed out.

He added in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday that the five suspects from Southern Province were released and have not appeared before any court.

Tembo questioned why Shadreck Kasanda had been held at Mukobeko Maximum Security Prison in Kabwe without trial for 11 months, while the other five suspects have been released.

He therefore challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to explain why only one of the six suspects in the alleged gold scandal remains incarcerated.

Tembo identified the six Zambian suspects arrested in connection with the scandal as Jim Belemu, Patrick Kawanu, Oswald Diangamo, Francis Mateyo, Robson Moonga, and Shadreck Kasanda.

“In other words, the gold scandal cases relating to the five suspects from Southern and other Zambezi Provinces appear to have mysteriously fizzled out,” he alleged.
