Pandemonium broke out Sunday along Lumamba road as armed men in Zambian police uniforms, and patrol vehicles, fired gunshots near the secretariat of troubled opposition Patriotic Front (PF).

Earlier in the day, the men in uniform had kept vigil at the secretariat, preventing supporters of the Edgar Lungu faction from having access to the premises.

About 11:00 hours, the Lungu fraction had put up a notice for a press briefing at 12:00 hours but later moved the event to 12:30 hours to another venue.

Later, the Lungu fraction communicated that the press event had been cancelled due to security reasons.

From a video clip obtained by Zambia Monitor, which was shared on Diamond Television’s official Facebook handle, police officers could be seen firing gunshots in order to disperse individuals seen around the secretariat.

A police patrol vehicle was also seen racing after individuals while armed men fired gunshots.

The police authorities are yet to formally react to the Sunday incident at the PF secretariat.
