More than K10.1 million of movable assets have been forfeited to the State, according to the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).
DEC Director General, Nason Banda, identified the forfeited assets as Toyota Land Cruiser ALX 7066, Toyota Land Cruiser ALT 8929, Toyota Land Cruiser BAB 4733 and Escorts EC 5250. S Drum Compactor.
Banda in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday said others were JCB JS305 LC Excavator and XP263 XCMG Rubber Pneumatic Tyre Roller all valued at a total cost of K10, 120,000.
He said the Commission also completed the forfeiture of three earth moving machines and three Toyota land cruisers.
“The Commission has in the past two weeks conducted operations on the Copperbelt, Chirundu and Kazungula in the Southern province that have led to several arrests involving counterfeit United States dollars, benylin with codeine and cannabis,” Banda said.
He said on the Copperbelt those arrested were two Chingola based businessmen for possession of counterfeit notes amounting to $311, 700 and are currently detained in custody while awaiting court appearance.
Banda said in Lusaka the Commission had arrested one male for possession of $78, 600 counterfeit.
“The Commission in Southern Province has arrested two males for trafficking in 66 boxes of Benylin with Codeine cough syrup,” he said.
Banda said the suspects were intercepted at the Kazungula One Stop Border Post as they were coming into the Republic from Botswana.
He also said the Commission in Lusaka had arrested two females for Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances namely 68.1 kilogrammes and 68.8 kilogrammes respectively of high grade cannabis and the suspects are detained in lawful custody and would appear in court soon.
