The National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) says it has paid out a total of K1.023 billion in pre-retirement benefits as at May 1, 2023.

NAPSA Head Corporate Affairs, Cephas Sinyangwe, said this is from the 30,636 claims processed so far, since President Hakainde Hichilema assented the National Pensions Scheme Amendment Bill 2023.

The bill introduced the Pre-retirement lumpsum benefit.

Sinyangwe in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday said this is a huge milestone in the government’s quest to empower citizens so that they can invest in various businesses and create the much-needed jobs.

He said this milestone is especially important as it coincides with the celebration of international Labour Day which celebrates the contribution of workers to the economy.

“The Authority wishes to affirm its assurance that there is enough liquidity to meet all the claims and that members can elect to claim the funds now or later as they choose,” assured Sinyangwe.
