Police in Lusaka have arrested and charged Kennedy Chundwe, aged 38, for the offence of incest involving his biological daughter, aged 14.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said this occurred between November 2022 and August 11, 2023 at 01:00 hours in Mazyopa compound of Lusaka.

Hamoonga said this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday and made available to Zambia Monitor.

He said brief facts were that the suspect, Kennedy Chundwe, ordered the wife that whenever they were going to Church, the daughter who was the only child he had should remain behind so that she prepared meals for him.

“In November 2022, on an unknown date, she was left with the father at home while the rest went to church and this was the first time he had carnal knowledge of her after forcing the victim by beating her,” Hamoonga said.

He said when the mother came back from church, she did not disclose to her about the incident for fear fear of being beaten by the father.

“From that day, the suspect continued having carnal knowledge with her until on August 11, 2023 at about 01:00 hours when the wife caught the husband naked in the daughter’s bedroom,” he said.

Hamoonga said the wife asked him what he was doing and that was the time she asked the daughter who revealed to her what the father had been doing with her since November, 2022.

Hamoonga said upon hearing the ordeal, the mother fainted and had been unwell since that day.

“Later, on August 22, 2023, because of the condition of her mother, the victim informed her aunt, the young sister to her mother, who reported the matter at Chipata Police Post,” he said.

Hamoonga said the suspect had been detained in custody and would appear in court soon.
