Chief Executive Officer of Africast Limited, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, speaking ahead of the fourth Land Linked Zambia event, scheduled this year, in Lusaka, has said that the forum would focus on addressing critical transport and logistics challenges affecting Africa’s mining sector.
“There are several practical strategies to significantly reduce transport and logistics expenses. These include advance procurement planning, collaborating with local suppliers, utilizing rail transport, optimizing logistics processes, fostering regional cooperation, and investing in infrastructure,” he said in a statement issued Wednesday.
Nyirenda added that a mining conglomerate operating in Zambia with an annual budget of $819 million allocated $4.7 million to transport and logistics.
Through cost-saving measures, the firm had already saved US$0.5 million, but further opportunities remained to optimise costs, according to him.
Under the theme “Embracing SMART Transport Corridors in Africa,” the event aims to explore innovative strategies and practical solutions to enhance efficiency and competitiveness in the mining sector.
