Northern province permanent secretary, Mpundu, warns health workers against drug theft (video)

Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Mpundu, has issued a warning to health workers in the region against stealing drugs from public health facilities.

Speaking at the official opening of the Provincial Integrated Review meeting in Mbala on Thursday, Mpundu condemned the illegal practice of diverting medical supplies to private clinics and pharmacies.

“This behaviour must stop immediately. It compromises the quality of healthcare and erodes public trust in our health institutions,” he said.

He warned that any health worker caught engaging in drug theft would face strict disciplinary action.

“The well-being of our people is paramount. Any breach of trust will be met with swift consequences,” Mpundu added.

The Provincial Integrated Review meeting provides a platform to assess the health sector’s progress and identify areas for improvement. It brought together health professionals, donors, and stakeholders from across the province to discuss best practices and strategies for better healthcare delivery.

Meanwhile, Provincial Health Director Professor Earnest Mutale stated the need for accountability and transparency in the health system.
