Nkana Member of Parliament, Binwell Mpundu, says he has been summoned by the Zambia Police Service concerning remarks he made about an attack on opposition leaders during the recent Kawambwa parliamentary by-election.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, Mpundu revealed that he was expected to appear before the Fraud and Cyber Crimes unit at Police Headquarters in Lusaka on Tuesday.

“I have just been called by Assistant Director (Mr. Chikuwa) at the Fraud and Cyber Crimes section at Police Headquarters in Lusaka regarding a statement I made about the attack on Tonse Alliance spokesperson Sean Tembo. Tembo was attacked at a police station, in the presence of Luapula Police Commanding Officer Yuyi Mwala, by UPND cadres led by Trevor Mwinde,” Mpundu stated.

The MP defended his comments, emphasizing that self-defense is enshrined in Zambian law and must be proportional to the force used by the aggressor.

“As a law-abiding citizen, I will make myself available tomorrow to understand what the police have concluded regarding this matter,” Mpundu said.
