The Director General of the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA), Michael Njapau, has underscored the media’s critical role in promoting the agency’s work and enhancing public understanding of the national health insurance scheme.
Speaking at a media workshop held at Sandy’s Creation on Tuesday, Njapau acknowledged that without media coverage, the public would remain unaware of NHIMA’s operations.
He stressed that any institution ignoring the media risked losing visibility.
“We understand that the work we do—whether implementing policies, providing services, or advocating for causes—has a profound impact on people’s lives. But no matter how important our work is, it can go unnoticed if not communicated properly,” he said.

Njapau stated the need to educate citizens on the national health insurance scheme, highlighting the media’s role in simplifying complex issues.
“The media helps society make sense of critical matters, whether local, national, or global. This is where its role becomes invaluable,” he noted.
He added that journalists had the ability to disseminate accurate, contextual, and timely information, enabling the public to make informed decisions.
“The media’s role goes beyond merely passing on facts—you are storytellers. You bring life to raw data and turn it into something that resonates with audiences,” Njapau said.
