Ndola clergyman urges church to foster unity between government, opposition parties

Ndola-based clergyman, Bishop Abraham Mwamba of World Touch Ministries, has called on the church to play a central role in promoting unity and cooperation between Zambia’s government and opposition parties.

Speaking during a Sunday service in Ndola, Bishop Mwamba stated that the church should remain non-partisan and act as a place of solace for all, regardless of political affiliation.

“Our churches should be places of solace for everyone, regardless of their political affiliation,” Mwamba said, adding that the church’s mission is to unify and promote love, not division.

While affirming the church’s right to comment on social issues, including politics, Mwamba warned against inciting division and confusion.

“The church should not sow seeds of division. Instead, it should promote unity and order,” he stated.

Mwamba noted that without unity, it would be difficult for people to achieve their aspirations in a peaceful society.

He urged church leaders to respect the democratic process and accept elected leaders, including President Hakainde Hichilema.

“President Hichilema was elected by Zambians, and everyone should accept this reality. Supporting his government is essential for development,” Mwamba said.

He also underscored the importance of engaging with opposition parties, stating that they play a critical role in providing checks and balances.

“Working with the government does not mean excluding the opposition. They are vital to our governance system,” he said.
