Minister of Defence, Ambrose Lufuma, has reaffirmed his Ministry’s commitment to curbing mealie meal smuggling and other cross boarder crimes to enhance national security.
Meanwhile, Lufuma has said the welfare of men and women in uniform remains a top priority issue for his Ministry.
He was speaking during his tour of military establishments in Zambia’s Northern Sector on Friday.
Lufuma told personnel that he was on ground to gain first hand insights into the operations and welfare of the men and women in uniform.
He assured personnel that he was walking the ground to ensure that their challenges received attention.
Lufuma commended defence personnel for curbing the smuggling of maize and mealie meal and securing the country’s food security.
He also paid courtesy calls on Paramount Chief Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people of Nchelenge and Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people.
He assured the traditional leaders that the Defence Force would continue to foster stability in the area so that the local economic pursuits can thrive.
