Government’s proposed constitutional amendments will be cheap, says vice president, Mutale Nalumango, stating that government would focus solely on non-contentious issues.
Nalumango highlighted that while the government recognized concerns about prioritizing the cost of living, the proposed amendments would avoid expensive processes such as a referendum or a commission of inquiry.
She was speaking during the Vice pesident’s Question Time in Parliament on Friday.
She reiterated that: “constitutional reforms can be costly, but that the government’s approach would be efficient and financially manageable.”
Meanwhile, the vice president reaffirmed government’s commitment to working with the Church, acknowledging it as a valued partner in national development.
She also issued a stern warning against political violence, emphasizing that the government would not tolerate misconduct from its cadres.
Nalumango pledged to ensure peaceful by-elections and a fair 2026 general election.
