Raphael Nakacinda, Secretary-General of a faction of the Patriotic Front (PF), was on Friday granted K15,000 bail by the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court after spending nine days in detention on charges of seditious practices.
Nakacinda was released after meeting the bail conditions, which required him to provide two traceable sureties, each with K15,000 in their own recognizance.
Mkaika Member of Parliament, Peter Phiri, and Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile acted as sureties for Nakacinda.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge, with the trial scheduled to begin next month before Chief Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili.

The charges stem from an incident on September 26, 2024, when Nakacinda allegedly made seditious remarks on the Facebook page of KANELE 97.7 FM.
He was accused of claiming that Republican President Hakainde Hichilema directed the Drug Enforcement Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, and Zambia Police Service to raid the home of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in an attempt to divert public attention from an ongoing eligibility case in the Constitutional Court.
The prosecution argued that Nakacinda’s statements were intended to incite discontent among the Zambian populace.
