“As government we will not interfere in the running of football. We are in a harmonious reciprocal relationship of mutual respect of each other other’s mandate and that is why this government has not, and will not interfere with the running of football affairs in this country,” he said.

Mweetwa hailed FAZ executive for their strides that had taken the women’s game to the top but challenged the football family to aim to do the same in the senior men’s game.

“We are proud of the things the women’s game has done for our country, they have taken us to places we have never been to. Now we challenge you the football leadership to do the same for the men,” he said.

The Choma Central UPND lawmaker paid tribute to the Francis Hafwiti executive for their work in the province to develop the game.

“Even as you go for elections, let your elections be a demonstration of unity in the like manner that when Zambia is playing the whole nation is united behind Zambia. In this election of FAZ, we expect the best personnel to win,” he said.

In his remarks, FAZ president, Andrew Kamanga, said the provinces should strive to take decentralization to the next level, urging clubs to priorities financial independence.

“The main office at Football House has given the provincial offices a head start in the initial stages of decentralization but now we have to strive to attain financial independence,” Kamanga said.

Meanwhile, Provincial Chairperson Francis Hafwiti chaired the meeting as directed by FIFA setting the pace for the next nine regional elective assemblies.
