Zambian model Mweene has been disqualified from the Miss Universe Zambia pageant, a decision confirmed by the competition’s national director, Alice Rowlands Musukwa.

The move has ignited a heated debate on social media, with many questioning the rationale behind her removal.

Musukwa detailed the circumstances surrounding Mweene’s disqualification, suggesting that her behavior during the competition played a role.

“Well, well, well! In this episode, Mweene told the judges that other girls don’t hang out with her because her international coach told her other contestants see her as a threat.

“A lot transpired during our time in Livingstone, and unfortunately, the Model Coordinator and Vice President of Arm Models made the decision to disqualify Mweene,” Musukwa stated.

The announcement has divided public opinion, with some supporting Mweene while others defended the competition’s management.

Support for Mweene

Among Mweene’s supporters is Sarah Mumba, who expressed disappointment over the decision and suggested that the model’s confidence may have intimidated others.

“She may have been too confident for others to cope with. That’s why they had to attack her on a personal trait rather than a skills-based rationale,” Mumba wrote.

She further pledged to sponsor Mweene in a future pageant, emphasizing her belief in the model’s potential.

Other supporters, such as Bertha Mulambo Mulimbika, questioned the severity of the penalty, arguing that Mweene should have been given a warning instead of being disqualified.

“Most great people are not liked by many. They should have judged her based on her skills,” Mulimbika stated.

Criticism of the Pageant’s Management

Several social media users have also taken issue with how the pageant organizers handled the situation. Azariah Zed suggested that the competition’s leadership lacked conflict resolution skills.

“I think these ladies should have taken a people management class. They are trying in many aspects of the pageant, but handling conflict seems to be failing,” Zed commented.

Others raised concerns about the financial and emotional toll on Mweene, pointing out that she had traveled from the UK only to be disqualified.

“She had to fly all the way from the UK just to be disqualified. Something must have been left out here because this makes no sense,” one commenter wrote.

Calls for Mweene to Pursue Commercial Modeling

Meanwhile, some have suggested that Mweene should shift her focus to commercial modeling rather than pageantry.

Chishimba Jeannette Chanda noted that Mweene had the right look for advertising.

“She has a magazine feature face. Maybe she should try advertising for big brands,” Chanda stated.

Unanswered Questions

The Miss Universe Zambia organization has not provided further details regarding the disqualification, leaving many to speculate about what truly transpired behind the scenes.

As social media discussions continue, calls for transparency and fairness in the pageant industry are growing.
