A pupil in his eleventh grade in Luapula’s Mwansabombwe district has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree .
This was after his mother reportedly scolded him for engaging in a fight.
Luapula Police Chief, Fwambo Siame, said in a statement on Thursday that the police received a report that Wilson Bunda, a grade 11 pupil died by hanging himself to a tree.
“Chibwe Chikumbi 54 reported that his brother Wilson Bunda died after hanging himself to a tree after being rebuked by his mother for fighting,” Siame said.
According to police, the victim on Monday around 20:00 hours went home in a drunken state and informed his mother that he slapped a boy at the market on the allegations that he stole money from his sisters.

Then, the victim’s mother rebuked him for fighting which made him unhappy and out of anger walked out of the yard on pretext that he was going to the farm to visit his father while not mentioning the intentions of taking his life.
The following day around 05:30 hours, a member of the public found him hanging to a tree within his father’s farm.
The passersby then alerted the family members who later went and identified him and the matter was then reported to the police.
The police visited the scene and reportedly advised the family to bury the body .
