The contracts of approximately 1,380 employees working at toll gates managed by Revimo, a Mozambican toll concessionaire, have reportedly been suspended following destruction caused during post-election tensions.
According to a report by Club of Mozambique, monitored by Zambia Monitor on Sunday, Revimo has accumulated losses amounting to 655 million Meticais, prompting the decision to suspend contracts.
Of those affected, 380 were direct employees at vandalized toll gates, while around 1,000 provided outsourced services to the company.
A source linked to Revimo stated that the contract suspensions began on March 1, 2025.
Currently, only four out of the 16 toll plazas managed by Revimo nationwide remain operational.
The suspension had also affected services such as security, cleaning, and maintenance, bringing the total number of affected workers to 1,004.
Despite the suspensions, Revimo claimed it has paid all affected workers their salaries up to February 2025.
The company had expressed hope that once the conflict was resolved, suspended employees might be reinstated.
