The Zambia Untied For Sustainable Development (ZUSD) is urging Zambians to defend democracy by stopping the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) attempts to de-register the Patriotic Front (PF) through the office of the Registrar of Societies.
ZUSD president, Lazarus Chiselwa , in an interview with Zambia Monitor is disappointed that all this is happening when the country and Africa is celebrating Zambia’s Hero, Dr Kenneth Kaunda Day.
Chiselwa said the country at the same time not long ago, held a successful summit of Democracy in Lusaka, therefore ZUSD Party expected the UPND to lead by example.
He said UPND under President Hakainde Hichilema should lead by example in adopting and putting into practice the recommendations which were made during the summit.
“This happening when Zambia and Africa is celebrating a hero and son of Africa, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, it is disappointing to see the UPND begin to champion the one party agenda by crippling the opposition parties through schemes such as the planned deregistration of the former ruling party,” Chisela said.
The office of the Registrar of Societies had allegedly threatened to deregister PF following its failure to comply with the order to avail a full and complete list of officer bearers.
