Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) has dismissed claims by Kankoyo Member of Parliament, Heartson Mabeta, that he met with company Chief Executive Officer, Charles Sakanya, regarding the Mufulira copper dump, known as the Mufulira Black Mountain.
MCM Public Relations Manager, Nebert Mulenga, said in a statement on Wednesday that Mabeta’s remarks should be treated as false and baseless.
“At no time did the CEO engage Mr. Mabeta over the Mufulira Copper Slag Dump,” Mulenga said.

“We urge the public to disregard the untrue statement attributed to the Kankoyo MP regarding Mopani.”
He emphasized that the Mufulira Copper Slag Dump remained part of Mopani’s assets with long-term mine plans, and that the company had no intention of relinquishing it.
Mulenga further stressed that Mopani had established communication channels through which all company-related matters were addressed, adding that Mabeta had no mandate to issue statements on behalf of the company or its officers.
