Socialist Party leader, Fred M’membe, has criticised the 2025 national budget, calling it an additional burden on the already struggling Zambian population.
M’membe expressed his concerns while appearing before the magistrate court on Monday in connection with charges of seditious practices.
He argued that the public was already enduring significant hardships and should not be subjected to further economic strain.

“It’s evil to place more burdens on people who are already overburdened,” M’membe said, adding that the budget not only failed to ease the people’s burdens but actually worsened them.
He urged leaders to be more mindful of the challenges citizens were facing, stating, “Good leaders should pay attention to the stresses people are going through.”
M’membe also criticized the increase in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), claiming it had not been effective since its introduction.
“What has CDF done? The statistics show that poverty is increasing,” he argued, questioning the impact of the fund on alleviating poverty in the country.
