Socialist Party (SP) President, Dr. Fred M’membe, has alleged that President Hakainde Hichilema is presiding over the most corrupt regime in the history of Zambia.
M’membe claimed that no decent or clean president could preside over such a corrupt regime without being extremely corrupt himself.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, M’membe stated that President Hichilema was failing to resolutely deal with corruption because it allegedly stemmed from his own actions.
M’membe said the corrupt individuals President Hichilema was dealing with were trusted appointees of the President himself.
He cited the recently resigned Director-General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Tom Shamakamba, as one such appointee.

“Why did Mr. Hichilema appoint such a highly compromised person—a person unfit to lead our country’s anti-corruption institution? This was a person reporting directly to Mr. Hichilema,” M’membe said.
He stated that President Hichilema was overseeing a so-called fight against corruption that had turned into the protection of corrupt individuals within his circle.
M’membe argued that the country could not experience this level of corruption without the head of the regime being allegedly corrupt himself.
“The numerous business interests of Mr. Hichilema, which he has failed to publicly disclose, are the source and incubator of all this corruption,” he stated.
