Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, has announced the appointment of a new Ministerial Media Team by President Hakainde Hichilema tasked with communicating government policies aimed at improving the economy.
The newly constituted team includes Commerce, Trade, and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga, Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali, Deputy Whip at Parliament Likando Mufalali, Community Development and Social Services Minister Doreen Mwamba, Health Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima, and Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe.
Mweetwa revealed the appointments during a media briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday, where he also shared updates on the Party Media Team structure.
Additionally, Youth, Sports, and Art Minister Elvis Nkandu had been appointed as Deputy Party Spokesperson, with Mark Simuuwe as Party Media Director, Situla Sikwindi as Deputy, and Oliver Shalala as Party Consultant.
“This decision is aimed at ensuring a smooth flow of information both within the government and the party, avoiding communication lapses,” Mweetwa explained.
He stated that these Ministers would appear on various media platforms to discuss government initiatives.
Mweetwa also criticized opposition parties, particularly the Patriotic Front (PF) and the Socialist Party, for failing to address critical issues and instead focusing on insulting the Head of State.
He assured the public that government programs like the Farmer Input Support Programme and Social Cash Transfer would continue, despite disruptions caused by the US government’s suspension of funding to USAID.
Looking ahead to 2025, Mweetwa emphasized President Hichilema’s focus on achieving economic growth, job creation, and attracting investments, especially through infrastructure development.
The President, he said, remained committed to using public resources prudently, combating corruption, and ensuring the timely execution of government projects.
