Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, has cautioned newly recruited police officers to avoid engaging in corrupt activities, urging them to serve with discipline and professionalism.
Addressing 1,323 graduating paramilitary officers at the Geoffrey Mukuma Training School, known as Sondela, on Thursday, Mwiimbu emphasized the importance of integrity, warning that officers involved in corruption would face serious repercussions.
He noted government’s commitment to strengthening the Zambia Police Service through increased recruitment, acquisition of more vehicles, and provision of essential equipment.
“The New Dawn Government is committed to building a police service that meets the demands of a modern society,” Mwiimbu stated.
The minister stressed that maintaining a safe environment was crucial for socio-economic development, stating that lawlessness and disorder would hinder progress.
Mwiimbu also urged Inspector General of Police, Graphael Musamba, to address staffing shortages at police stations, now that officers had graduated from all three police training schools.
Musamba, in his remarks, called on the new officers to uphold integrity, accountability, and respect for human dignity in their duties, reminding them that any involvement in crime or indiscipline would lead to strict consequences.
“You are now the torchbearers of the service, and I expect professionalism to enhance public confidence,” Musamba said.
