A miner from Rongxing Investments in Kalulushi has tragically died after falling into a pool of acid while offloading chemicals at the company’s site along Mufulira Road, Kitwe.
Dickson Nyoni, an Assistant Administration Officer at Rongxing, succumbed to fatal burns after acid spilled from a tanker truck he was assisting to offload.
His body was reportedly burned to near skeleton after the acid came into contact with his skin.
According to Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, the incident occurred when the offloading pipe disconnected from the tanker truck, spilling acid onto Nyoni’s body.
Despite attempts to escape, Nyoni managed to run a few meters before he collapsed into a nearby drainage full of acid.

“The body was burnt to near skeleton. His workmate, Smart Banda, managed to escape unharmed,” Mweemba stated.
The police have since visited the scene, and the body was retrieved and transported to Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted.
An inquiry has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
