Patriotic Front (PF) faction leader, Miles Sampa, has secured the right to defend his Matero parliamentary seat after the Constitutional Court granted his application to join a case challenging his status as an MP.
The legal battle was initiated by a rival PF faction, led by Mafinga MP, Robert Chabinga and Secretary General Morgan Ng’ona, who are seeking to have the seat declared vacant, arguing that Sampa was expelled from the party.
However, in a ruling by Constitutional Court Deputy President, Arnold Shilimi, the court determined that Sampa had a clear and identifiable interest in the matter, as his parliamentary status was directly affected.
While Sampa secured his place in the proceedings, his Deputy Secretary General, Hazel Kapeta, was not as fortunate.
The court rejected her joinder application, ruling that she lacked the necessary legal standing.

Kapeta had sought inclusion in the case based on her position as PF Deputy Secretary General.
However, court documents revealed that her name did not appear on the official list of office bearers registered with the Registrar of Societies.
“In the absence of official documentation supporting her role, Kapeta has failed to demonstrate sufficient interest to be part of these proceedings,” Justice Shilimi ruled.
