The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has assured the nation that it had sufficient stocks of key medical supplies to respond effectively to any potential cholera outbreak.
In a statement issued by ZAMMSA Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, Bradley Chingobe, the agency stated its readiness, particularly in light of recent floods and the government’s intensified public health efforts.
“ZAMMSA maintains sufficient stocks of key supplies necessary for cholera prevention and management, including Calcium Hypochlorite, Sodium Hypochlorite Solution, Oral Rehydration Salts, Zinc Sulfate, absorbent Cotton Wool, Gloves, and Gumboots.
These supplies are readily available and positioned for swift deployment to affected areas as needed,” Chingobe said.
He urged health facilities in high-risk areas to proactively engage with ZAMMSA for timely replenishment of critical supplies to ensure a coordinated response.
Chingobe reaffirmed ZAMMSA’s commitment to working with the Ministry of Health, provincial and district health offices, and other partners to strengthen preparedness efforts nationwide.
“Our teams are on high alert, and we have reinforced logistical arrangements to guarantee that no health facility faces shortages at this critical time,” he stated.
ZAMMSA further encouraged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to preventive measures outlined by health authorities to mitigate the risk of cholera.
