Four children, aged between six and ten, have allegedly been burned by two unknown men wearing masks in Central Province.

Central Province Police Commissioner, Charity Munganga, reported that the victims were playing on a hill in the Chungulo area in Mkushi when the incident occurred.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Munganga narrated that six children were together at the time, but that two managed to escape unhurt.

She explained that on Tuesday, the victims were playing in the bushes on a hill when two unknown men ordered them to come down the hill and gather at one point.

“One of the perpetrators held them together while the other gathered dry grass, branches, and sticks, surrounded the victims, and lit the fire while forcing them to remain at the center,” she said.

Munganga mentioned that two of the children, both aged eight, managed to escape when they saw the perpetrators fleeing.

“At this point, the other children also managed to escape but suffered severe burns,” she added.

She noted that the victims were immediately taken to Chibefwe Urban Clinic and later transferred to Mkushi District Hospital for further treatment.

“Investigations into the matter have been launched to determine the motive behind the act and apprehend the perpetrators,” she confirmed.
