Marketing plays a critical role in the success of any economy as it drives brand awareness and consumer demand, says Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Lilian Bwalya.
Bwalya said a strong marketing sector fostered innovation, competitiveness, and job creation, which are essential for the country.
She conveyed these remarks in a speech read on her behalf by Human Resources and Administration Director, Nalituba Mwale, at the launch of the Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) 2024–2028 Strategic Plan on Tuesday.
“If we are to create a thriving economy, the importance of marketing cannot be overstated. Effective marketing strategies allow businesses to identify and meet consumer needs, differentiate from competitors and build lasting customer relationships,” Bwalya stated.

She added that such strategies drive sales, enhance customer loyalty, and contribute to business growth and sustainability, ultimately benefiting the overall economic health of the nation.
Bwalya praised ZIM for shaping the marketing landscape in Zambia by providing professional development opportunities, upholding ethical standards and advocating for the marketing profession.
Bwalya also commended ZIM for empowering its members, which equips marketing professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of the modern marketplace.
She highlighted that the professional development of marketing experts enhances service delivery in the sector, which is crucial for the country’s competitiveness.
At the same event, ZIM Registrar and CEO, Lute Mwelo, said the strategic plan represented a combination of research, collaboration and dedication from all stakeholders of the institute.
Mwelo noted that the plan outlined clear objectives and innovative strategies to navigate the ever-changing marketing landscape.
