In an intensified effort to capture fugitive Emmanuel Banda, a Petauke Central lawmaker, Lusaka police have raided his residence in the Ibex Hill area.

The raid followed the announcement of a K2 million bounty for information leading to Banda’s arrest.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed that the operation aligned with the police’s mandate to uphold the law and ensure public safety.

Hamoonga said that such actions were standard procedure during investigations.

“The operation was part of our routine procedures in the ongoing investigation,” Hamoonga said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday.

He added that, to maintain the investigation’s integrity, further details could not be disclosed at this time.

Hamoonga urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculating about the operation’s specifics.

He reassured citizens of the police’s commitment to conducting thorough and impartial investigations and promised to provide updates when it is safe to do so.

“The Zambia Police Service remains dedicated to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” Hamoonga noted.

Banda, who has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery, escaped from lawful custody while receiving treatment at Chipata General Hospital.

His wife, Lombe Chali, had been arrested and charged with aiding her husband’s escape.

The police’s raid in Ibex Hill was part of their ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend Banda, who remained at large despite the significant bounty and intensified search efforts.
